Jacksonville Diving 3-29-08

We did fairly well diving yesterday off of Jacksonville. Hit SS and CH/MG with all of the fish coming from CH and MG; SS didn't have much happening. We ended with 6 snapper, 3 gags, 7 flounder, 4 mangos (small) and a half dozen sea bass. The gag grouper was my best so far diving. There were a lot more grouper seen than caught as they are always elusive. There are some big boys hanging around those ledges still guys! We saw a ton of Mola Mola on the surface all day and a couple of right whales on the way in.

Visibility was from 10-20ft and water temps were pretty much 68 top to bottom all day.

Water conditions off of St marys

Got a report from the weekend from "Gunrunner" off of SpearBoard who landed a nice big lobster that weighed 8.6lb:

"About 25 Miles Off Shore From St. Marys On A Public Number Wreck. She Was Sitting In A Blind Hole With No Escape Route Right At The Bow. Really Wasnt Expecting To Find Any Lobster But It Wasnt Any Trouble Limiting Out On Gags. Seas Were 3-4 Ft In The Morning But Laid Down After Lunch. Vis Probably 20-25 Or So. Water Is Warming Up Quick. I Was Pretty Comfortable In A 3mil."

If the water is warm off of St marys you would think Jacksonville would be warm too. We are going to dive this weekend and see how things are first hand.

Great White Shark Spotted off of Jacksonville!

I didn't see this with my own eyes but the story is from a friend of a friend so I believe it to be true. Supposedly these guys were fishing somewhere near the BR area out of Mayport and had this great white buzz around the boat for quite a while. It was estimated at 13ft long. I guess these guys pass through every year while the Right Whales come through the area.
