Grand Cay, Abaco Spearfishing, Fishing and Wahoo Report

We loaded up the Bluewater 2550 on 12/31 to head across to Grand Cay for a couple days of fishing and relaxing. We left Ft. Pierce inlet and were pretty quickly greeted by a 15-20knot wind out of the west. The next few hours were slow and sloppy crossing the gulf stream but it never got too bad. It took us almost 6 hours to make the trip and we were glad to finally get to Rosie's. The wind continued to blow pretty hard in Abaco that day so we decided to stay on land. Rosie's lounge ended up being a fun place to spend new years eve! A few Kalik's and the night was great!

The wind was blowing hard the next day so we couldn't get out and troll. I free dove on some coral heads inside of the reef off of Grand Cay and was able to get a couple lobster for us to eat for dinner. The wind died that night but left us a pretty big swell to deal with the next day. It was rolling 6-10ft out there. Once we got into deep water it spaced out enough for us to fish for a little while. We caught 1 wahoo and a tuna in about an hour or two of fishing. Braid speedsters and Yozuri bonitas in around 200ft of water were the lucky lures. The fish were not hitting out baited lures at all. We also did not have any strikes in water deeper than 300ft. We headed back to the coral heads after a little while and got a couple hogfish for dinner as well.

Before heading back we spent some time exploring a couple small islands between Grand and Walker's Cay. It sure is nice to be able to pull up to your own uninhabited island. Abaco is great!

The next day was flat so we ran back to west end early to fish a bit before heading back to the states. Within 10 minutes of getting lines out we had a nice wahoo on a speedster again. It ended up being about a 45 pound fish, Katie's biggest to date. We trolled near memory rock for a while longer and didn't get anything else.

The water was 78 so we jumped in and explored memory rock for a while. The amount of marine life in that area is amazing. A nice sized reef shark joined the show and we ended that dive shortly there after.

It was a great trip. Something about being able to swim, fish, and dive in 75 degree water in January is just amazing!
